Compelled To Go

"For the love of Christ compels me..." 2 Cor. 5:7

At age nine, Juli McGowan decided that she was destined to become a missionary. At 15, she embarked on her first trip; taking time out from school to work in Haiti’s understaffed hospitals. Many years later she’s still out helping others. After completing her training in nursing at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, she moved to a small village in Kenya. Living without electricity or running water, Juli spends her days working with the village’s many AIDS sufferers, distributing medical supplies, establishing care groups and offering orphanage placements for children who have been left behind.

After several years of Christian outreach and leadership development in Tanzania ELI founder, Don Rogers, while working with Tanzanian Christians and churches, found the lack of food and other necessities of life a disturbing commonality among the villages. Many new believers cried out for work – seeking any opportunity to earn income for food, clothes, medicine, and school fees.

In 1994, ELI was formed and immediately expanded its initial ministry of evangelism and Bible training to include projects addressing the physical sufferings faced by the people. This holistic work continues to open up new communities to both the Word of God and practical ideas for breaking the cycle of poverty at the village level. As a Christian organization, ELI cares deeply about the spiritual condition of all people and works closely with evangelical leaders and churches in both the USA and the countries we serve. What began with a few volunteers has grown to become a dynamic team made up of full-time nationals and Americans working side by side. In addition, volunteers from the USA participate each year in short-term opportunities provided by ELI.

Faith Community Church has participated in short-term volunteer work by sending materials and personnel to aid in the construction of needed buildings as well as other works.

The Flock Band

The Flock Band has a ministry that reaches out into our community in ways “The Church” cannot. We at Faith Community Church like to claim them as part of our own as two their members are on our Worship Team.

The Flock Band consists of local musicians from a variety of backgrounds and various churches. Through their concerts and personal appearances, The Flock Band is stretching out to embrace the Greater North State for Christ.

In The Flock Band God is utilizing the talents of Joe Larsen and John Mahan on trombones, John Abshier and Joey Karch on trumpets, and Ken Reed and Zack Pirkl on saxophones while Pat Karch on keyboard, Jeff Needleman on guitar, Kirk Wayman on bass and Jason Young on drums to comprise the rhythm section of this group. The vocal talents of  Pat Karch, Joe Larsen, John Mahan, Jeff Needleman, Celeste McAllister, Pam Karch and Kathy Larsen to lend voice to this vibrant ministry of the Holy Spirit. This ministry has seasoned pros, long time musicians and very talented younger players energized by God to present His message to our world.

The February True Love Waits Rally was a charge! There were 6 churches represented with 64 students and adults and 42 commitments to remain pure until marriage. A big thanks to the band, Fire by Night, and the youth groups who did testimonies, skits and special music. Also in youth ministry, we had 10 at the Youth Workers Training led by Daryl Watts from CSBC. Great
ideas and networking!

There is a lot of things happening in the association, but it’s not for everyone to do everything, it’s opportunities. The Association serves the churches.
